sounds like you had a fab time in barcelona! i am sending my 16 year old to barcelona for language c

Where she stayed: While I was studying at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona, I stayed in a homestay near Gaudi's famous La Sagrada Familia church. I lived with another American roommate and our Spanish señora who cooked for us every night – definitely the way to go! My homestay was in the L'Eixample district of Barcelona and is particularly safe and walkable. There are many great hotels and rental apartments in L'Eixample – when my parents came to visit me for a week last March, they rented a spacious (and affordable) apartment in L'Eixample through the Negre BCN Apartments website .
Although I lived in L'Eixample, there are many great hotels, hostels, and rentals vacation packages for catalina island california throughout the city. El Born and the Gothic Quarter are historic and quaint and are very easy to navigate. The districts of Gracia and El Raval also have their own unique vibes as well. If you're looking for the posh, luxury experience in Barcelona, stay at Hotel Arts near the water at Ciutadella Villa Olímpica.
Gillian's Recommendations for Sightseeing: Barcelona is a spectacular city and offers many amazing tourist attractions. Although the order of importance for sightseeing in Barcelona might vary with the amount of time you plan to spend there and your individual vacation packages for catalina island california tastes, these are some best-bets for making the most of your time in the city:
- Las Ramblas: This is touristy, vacation packages for catalina island california but a must. It's sort of like Santa Monica's Third Street Promenade, with lots of street artists and vendors. About half-way down when you're walking toward the water is Barcelona's famous market, La Boqueria. Pop in there and buy some packaged vacation packages for catalina island california fruit for a Euro or a smoothie and take a look at the rabbits and pigs sold in the meat stands. Las Ramblas is always different depending on the time of day and that makes it all the more entertaining.
- Parc Guell: This is Gaudi's famous park and it is unreal. It sort of feels a little bit like Disneyland because it is so whimsical. Gaudi drew inspiration from nature, and this is illustrated in much of his architecture vacation packages for catalina island california in the park.
- La Sagrada Familia : This is Gaudi's epic church, which has been under construction now for 100 years. It's truly breathtaking and also the most visited spot in Spain. I liked visiting vacation packages for catalina island california the inside too, but on a short visit just make sure you see the outside.
- If you have time, check out: Gaudi's La Pedrera (also called Casa Milla), Arc de Triomf, Picasso Museum , Futbol stadium at Camp Nou, Magic Fountain show at Plaza Espanya (runs on the half hour 7-8:30 on Fridays and Saturdays), Montjuic and the Olympic Stadium.
Getting Around: The metro is very easy to use in Barcelona and it runs 24 hours on Saturdays! vacation packages for catalina island california (Other nights it closes at midnight and resumes operation at 5am). I'd suggest picking up a guidebook before your trip (I like Lonely Planet's Encounter vacation packages for catalina island california -get your copy at the DIWYY store ). Use the included vacation packages for catalina island california map to help you navigate. It's also pretty clean, and in my experience, safe. Buy a T-10 metro pass, it's about 7.70 euro and you can share it between people. Its 10 rides and you can easily vacation packages for catalina island california buy another vacation packages for catalina island california pass if you need one. Barcelona also has a system called the "Nit Bus" which runs all night – this was particularly useful when I needed to get home after the metro had ceased running for the night. These trains can easily be picked up from Plaça Catalunya in the city center.
Language tips: Although the official language of Catalonia (the region in Spain in which Barcelona is located) is Catalan, almost everyone also speaks Spanish. Knowing a few key Spanish phrases will definitely come in handy on a trip to Barcelona, but it is such a multi-cultural vacation packages for catalina island california city that your enjoyment of the city will not be hampered if you only speak English.
Other Tips: Barcelona must be seen to be believed – I'd recommend spending at least 4 days (but ideally about a week) to get the true feel for the city. Prepare yourself for amazing tapas and sangria, a lively nightlife, and beautiful views of the Mediterranean Sea.
sounds like you had a fab time in barcelona! i am sending my 16 year old to barcelona for language classes this summer was interested in finding a homestay in the Eixample area where his school is. I don t feel comfortable having him stay a great distance from the school for safety issues as well as i think it will be hard for him to make it there early every morning if he has to deal with public transportation. do you know how i can get in touch with your host family? thank you so much
I had a great time in Barcelona visiting the art nouveau buildings and the Gaud monuments. I didn t know there was so mush interesting old buildings though. There s a fun walk around vacation packages for catalina island california the Roman remains in Barcelona: Roman walls, aqueduct, newly discovered villa with excellent mosaics, Via Sepulchralis, the Temple of Augustus and remains of streets in the Museum under the Pla a del Rei.
