Be nice, it was not really a great deal for everyone. I would rather use AA miles on Hawaiian, Alaska, or AA to get to Hawaii and only pay $5 in fees and have the flexibility to redeposit at no fee as an EXP.
I rather fly AA and get the status miles. When I used to be AA EXP (I soft landed down to PLT due to Stage 4 cancer), I would wait for a nice sale fare to Hawaii (for example, LAX-HNL for $263ai champion sports tours a few years ago) and upgrade using comp upgrades for me 500 milers in my account for my wife. At that time, the service was in a 767 which was quite nice.
