The Nigerian man suspected of trying to blow up a Northwest/Delta Airlines jet as it approached Detr

Federal law enforcement authorities are trying to determine the credibility of Abdul Mutallab s story; i.e. IS he an Al Qaeda operative, or is this another episode of what I have coined Self-Induced Jihad Syndrome ?
Abdul Mutallab certainly fits the Self-Induced Jihadi profile he is young, intelligent, educated, AND inspired according to his entry visa he was flying from Nigeria to the United States for a religious seminar .
The suspect had been in a law enforcement-intelligence database but was not on the government s no-fly list. According to a federal situational awareness bulletin: The subject is claiming to have extremist affiliation and that the device was acquired in Yemen along with instructions as to when it should be used.
The suspect told authorities that he had explosive powder taped to his leg and used a syringe of chemicals mediterranean cruise lines to mix with the powder that was to cause explosion. This is of concern because it is a method of mixing that is consistent with terror techniques.
The trouble with this sort of improvised explosives is that they are not reliable, and are very difficult to initiate. Factors such as temperature, mediterranean cruise lines ambient pressure and relative humidity affect chemical reactions. A chemical mixture that may have initiated perfectly well in a hot, dry desert climate like Yemen obviously failed to produce results in a jetliner at altitude, thankfully.
The popular television show Mythbusters put these MacGyver -type energetics to the test: in one episode, they tried to replicate how MacGyver once blew a man-sized hole in a wall with one gram of sodium reacting with water. The MythBusters placed sodium in a gel capsule, mediterranean cruise lines placed it in a bottle full of warm water, placed the bottle against a cinder block wall, and tamped it with sand. One gram of sodium was not powerful enough to damage the wall (or even the bottle it was in), and 100 grams of sodium was also not enough. The MythBusters then used 500 grams of more-reactive potassium placed inside a cannon-like contraption to direct all the force onto the wall, but still failed to cause any damage. The MythBusters finally resorted to using C4 high explosive to demolish the wall.
1. The Obama Administration has been reluctant to even use the word terrorism to date. They didn t call Major Hasan s actions terrorism. So the fact that they have already called the attempted bombing mediterranean cruise lines of Flight 253 an act of terrorism, suggests that they do NOT consider it just another case of jihad syndrome like Mr. Hasan.
2. The airframes of modern airliners are stronger than many folks realize. Even a two-foot hole blown in the side of the fuselage would not cause the airframe to break up. So a small explosive, even if it detonated, might not accomplish the purpose of destroying the aircraft.

I think you are reading far too much into this. These are two distinctly different kinds of acts but it is possible that neither of them was a coordinated attack by Al Qaeda, but rather just a guy who wanted to make a splash. That Mutallab claims to have been directed by Al Qaeda isn t necessarily significant I ve been predicting for awhile that any Islamic loony or nihlist who wants to make a bigger splash mediterranean cruise lines with an act of terror is going to tell people he was working with Al Qaeda, because it creates an 100x multiplier in the effect.
Doesn t matter he is a jihadi mediterranean cruise lines and he identifies with AQ. If he was a white supremacist and said he was with the KKK, would he need to produce his membership card in order for the press to believe mediterranean cruise lines him?
The Nigerian man suspected of trying to blow up a Northwest/Delta Airlines jet as it approached Detroit Friday visited the U.S. at least once before and was supposed to have gotten some additional screening on that trip, according to a House committee chairman briefed on the ongoing inquiry.
House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) told POLITICO that the suspect in the attempted Christmas Day bombing, Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab, 23, was in the United States a couple of years ago.
We think he was 20 or 21 when he came before, Thompson mediterranean cruise lines said. He was on a list that required some additional screeninng mediterranean cruise lines but they didn t say he was on the no-fly list. The lawmaker said it was unclear if Mutallab actually got additional screening on the prior trip or on this trip. He also said his committee plans to investigate the matter, including why Mutallab may have fallen off of a list requiring extra screening.
You don t really read very well do you? In a post I wrote a couple of days ago you took about 5 words from my post and made a vapid comment and also mis- attributed the the post to someone else. I can t in good conscience take you seriously on anything.
Whoever mediterranean cruise lines trained Abdul Mutallab didn t do a very good job. What makes a bomb effective on an airliner is the pressure differential between the cabin and the outside air. At altitude the cabin has the equivalent of an 8,000 foot level while the outside is at, say, 38,000 feet. That means a pressure of some 8 pounds per square inch. (If you ever thought you could kick out the window of a 737, note that there is already about a half a ton of air pressing against that window. If you think about it too much, you ll end up taking the aisle seat every time )
That is why Pan Am flight 103 over Lockerbie was so destructive. The bomb just serves to rupture the cabin, and air pressure does the rest. The early Comet jet aircraft also showed how destructive pressurized air can be.
Closer mediterranean cruise lines to the ground, the differential is not as pronounced, and the damage would be localized. Unless the blast would rupture the control cables (see Turkish Airlines Flight 981), the flight would be rather uncomfortable, but survivable. You haven t lived until you ve seen the pictures of Aloha Airlines Flight 243, which lost about a third of the ceiling and still landed.
mediterranean cruise lines Given that for 9/11 Al Qaeda was smart enough to use airliners at the beginning of their flight to maximize the use of fuel to sustain mediterranean cruise lines an intense fire, I have difficulty believing they would be dumb enough to instruct someone to use a bomb at the end of a flight. Either he was not trained by Al Qaeda, or Al Qaeda has been so decimated that they cannot plan effective acts of terror like they could in the past.
A preliminary FBI analysis found that the device contained the high explosive pentaerythritol (PETN), according to an affidavit with the criminal complaint. mediterranean cruise lines The FBI also found what look like remnants of a syringe believed to have been part of the device.
