Miscellaneous Charge Orders - MCO's do not qualify a customer to rent. The customer must still meet

With this week s news that Hertz, the nation s second-largest rental car company, is buying Dollar Thrifty, the fourth largest player in the industry, there s good news and not-so-good news for travelers who rent cars.
The good news is that pricing shouldn t change much, said longtime industry analyst Neil Abrams. The not-so-good good news is that you have three companies controlling 95 percent of a $23 billion domestic market.
How those two scenarios play out, of course, depends on whether the Federal Trade Commission approves omni hotel the merger most observers believe it will and how the remaining companies omni hotel manage the size of their various fleets.
In the meantime, the move can also be seen as the latest step in a natural progression for an industry that s been dealing with changing business models and evolving customer demographics for decades.
By pawn, Hoffer is referring to the fact that in the late 1980s, car manufacturers started buying rental car companies Ford once owned Hertz, while GM was a big investor in Avis to create a ready-made (downstream) market for their cars. Several years later, the nation s biggest car retailer, AutoNation, bought National omni hotel and Alamo to ensure a steady (upstream) supply of what Hoffer calls creampuff used cars.
According to Hoffer, both efforts failed, although omni hotel the effects can still be seen today. For one thing, once the Big Three automakers got out of the rental business, it opened omni hotel the door for the influx of Hyundais, Nissans and Toyotas now available on rental car lots across the country.
At the same time, the industry is recognizing that consumer demographics are changing and offering renters more options. Following the lead of industry leader Zipcar, both Enterprise and Hertz have launched car-sharing programs WeCar and Hertz on Demand, respectively that allow renters to access cars, mostly in urban areas, for an hour or two instead of by the day or week.
Car-sharing is still a niche market but it s poised for big growth. According to a soon-to-be-published report from Frost Sullivan, membership in car-sharing programs omni hotel in North America is expected to jump from 860,000 in 2011 to 9 million by 2020. An earlier report from the company estimates that revenues will climb to $3 billion in 2016, up from $700 million in 2010.
Much of the growth can be attributed to urban dwellers, college students and others who only need a car occasionally, usually for travel around town. And at rates that average $5 to $10 per hour, car-sharing is probably a poor choice for longer trips and multi-day rentals.
But, according to Philip Gott, senior omni hotel director with IHS Automotive, car-sharing is poised to expand beyond its college student/young urban professional fan base, especially as big players like Hertz and Enterprise expand their offerings beyond college omni hotel campuses and city/suburban omni hotel locations.
Consider a scenario, says Gott, in which you fly into a city, pick up a car at the airport but then park it for the duration of your stay: If you can pick it up at the airport and get rid of it at the hotel, you might only have it for an hour at the beginning of your trip and an hour at the end instead of renting it for five days."
From Seatac Airport one way to San Francisco Airport, full size crossover (Dodge Journey) 14-day rental $195 plus the usual drop fees, etc. Total = $320.51. Not bad for a meandering 14-day camping trip down the coast. A MERE $320 DOLLARS FOR 14 DAYS WHAT A GREAT DEAL.
From Seatac Airport to McCarran Airport Las Vegas, full size crossover (Dodge Journey) 14-day rental $4,095 plus drop fees, etc., total cost $4,888.55. You got that right, FOUR THOUSAND EIGHT HUNDRED EIGHTY-EIGHT DOLLARS, ALMOST FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS to rent a full size crossover basic Dodge Journey for 14 days ONE WAY from Seattle to Las Vegas!
It's cheaper to fly round trip first class and stay in high price five star hotels along the way, including a week in a 1500-square foot luxury suite while in Vegas, instead of staying in camp grounds all the way to Las Vegas and renting a basic vehicle - you would still end up saving about $3500.
Odd thing is that 4 years ago I rented a Dodge Journey for 14 days and drove to Vegas from Seattle omni hotel and the total cost was $289.00. How the price went up to almost five thousand dollars for the same vehicle and the same number of days is beyond me!
Where is the Federal Government? Why are they allowing this to happen? Do they really think that this will not raise the cost of car rentals? Less competition is bad. They should make these agencies give up valuable rental space at airports then to smaller more competitive car rental companies if they all want to merge. #2 - Wed Aug 29, 2012 8:26 AM EDT Steven100
It's hard to regulate omni hotel when the rates set 100% by demand, if there are few renters prices go down, if they struggle to keep a car on the lot, the customer pays the price to borrow the car. There is no collusion, it's all based on the day to day market. I worked for Enterprise for a while, omni hotel and for people renting that are not due to insurance or corporate omni hotel accounts, the prices had to rise to make sure we didn't just shut down in the middle of the day when the cars run out. If you need to rent, rent on a friday saturday and sunday and never from the airport. 1 vote #4 - Wed Aug 29, 2012 11:29 AM EDT lamronbyhw
HORRIBLE, since Hertz routinely demands a $200 deposit at the counter that IS NOT disclosed in the rate quotes when booking online... and if you don't have it or refuse, they will not rent to you, leaving omni hotel you possibly stuck without transportation. #5 - Wed Aug 29, 2012 6:00 PM EDT So sad-1568925
Credit cards must have available credit, and debit/check cards must have available funds, for the estimated amount of rental charges plus up to USD 200.00 for any incidental omni hotel charges in order to secure the rental. For customers with a PC coupon, the estimated amount is the approximate total not including your promotion.
Eligible debit cards must have Visa or Mastercard logo. Use of a debit card to rent a vehicle is subject to a review omni hotel of your credit history. omni hotel Stored value/prepaid/gift cards are not acceptable to qualify for rental, however these cards may be used for payment at return.
Please note that at the time of rental you will need to present (1) a current driver's license and (2) a valid credit or charge card in the renter's name.
