Earlier this year, in March to be exact there was an intense campaign designed to ban smoking from public places. This whole movement ended in the passing of a law which has been called the General Law to Control Tobacco and its Adverse Effects in Health and was made public the 26th of March.  Rent a car in Costa Rica
However just three months after this approved law was published the president Laura Chinchilla and the minister of Health, Daisy Corrales have signed a regulation which allows a loophole to make this law more flexible.
This regulation will allow cigarettes to be lighted and consumed in areas of work in open spaces which belong to the property at a distance of at least 5 meters from the area of production or their connecting and annexed areas.
The regulation did not touch other parts of this law such as the prohibition of publicity related to tobacco consumption and also the obligation to include delta airline flight schedules in each of the packs of cigarettes sold in our country a note about the harm that nicotine can produce. It has also specified the process of reporting those who do not abide by the law and smoke in areas that have been categorized as prohibited such as buses, bars and restaurants.
This regulation is of course more than welcomed by many of the hundreds of thousands of smokers who see smoking as a way of releasing stress due to the demand of their work. Many do not only smoke during leisure hours but also during the couple of minutes that they are allowed to be away from their office desk in order to grab a cigarette.
