To celebrate the arrival of summer and Sullivan’s readings in Kennebunk , Damariscotta , and South P

Summer is officially here! MP can enjoy a cup of coffee and a good novel in the early morning hours while the kids sleep in. There are several books on MP's list, but she couldn't resist reading J. Courtney Sullivan's Maine   first.
Maine details the lives of four women in the Kelleher family: Alice, the 83-year old matriarch; her daughter, Kathleen; granddaughter Maggie; and daughter-in-law, Ann Marie. The story begins with Alice, who is living in the family's cottage in Cape Neddick for the summer and fighting demons from her past. She drinks too much, mourns the tragic loss of her sister, and does her best to control the family from afar. Kathleen is a recovering alcoholic who is living with her boyfriend and business partner in California. She's proud of the successful gardening business she's created, but Kathleen cruising catamarans worries the family will never forgive her past mistakes. Maggie is a 32-year old New York fiction writer. Her unreliable boyfriend and an unplanned pregnancy have her questioning what the future holds. Conservative Ann Marie lives in a Massachusetts country club. While her home life is shrouded in perfection, Ann Marie has a few secrets cruising catamarans of her own.
Sullivan's character-driven stories are skillfully intertwined, which makes Maine a compelling novel. Readers will be anxious cruising catamarans to learn what happens when the women converge in Cape Neddick, where the real family drama will undoubtedly begin.
To celebrate the arrival of summer and Sullivan's readings in Kennebunk , Damariscotta , and South Portland this week, we're giving away a copy of her book. Tell us: where is your family's favorite Maine summer getaway? We'll choose a winner on Thursday, June 23. Good luck!

We love to go up no ath to spend time with our family. We have a cabin up in Mt. Chase, Maine where we can see moose in our backyard and walk to a nearby swimmin hole to cool off. Fishing cruising catamarans is another big draw when we re up at the cabin.
My family goes to York Beach every summer for a long weekend. My grandparents lived there, and when they died, we continued to take our sons there and do all of the same traditions my grandparents and parents did with me. Plus we added some of our own. We go to the Goldenrod, York Animal Kingdom, Sandy s Purple Palace, the Nubble Light, Sweet Josie s, and more. My children are grown with children of their own. We continue our annual tradition with the 5th generation, staying in a wonderful inn on the beach. There have been some lean years financially, and we might bring up the idea of saving money by not making our annual trip. The idea quickly gets vetoed, and we find a way to continue our precious family tradition, adding more treasured memories each and every year. At 59, I have not missed a year, nor do I intend to!
There are so many great places to vacation in Maine. Two years ago after my daughter was born, we started renting cruising catamarans a place on a lake in Maine. Each year we find a new lake to enjoy and a new town to discover.
I am not originally from Maine, so I am enjoying exploring Maine with my girls. Over the last two summers we have been planning an adventure day each week where we go out and try something new. When my girls were little the adventures have been local (Narrow Gauge RR, Ferry to Peaks Island, Gray animal cruising catamarans park). Now that we no longer have to get home for naps, our adventure days can be farther from home to places like Popham Beach, Old Orchard Beach, the Aquarium in Boothbay cruising catamarans the places you might go if you were visiting Maine.
Since we have three little ones, there is no vacationing or getting away, just traveling. LOL We do like Two Lights State Park for day trips since it has ocean, climbing rocks, secluded picnic tables and the very important jungle gym. Another favorite is Smalls Falls near my husband s family in the Kingfield area.
I have lived in Maine my entire life and still to this day there are places we go that makes me love this state more and more. I live in Ellsworth Maine which is close to bar harbor so before the tourists come we love to get out there with our children and go to all the attractions. Schoodic point in winter harbor is also an amazing site to visit the waves crashing and climbing the rocks are always a great time. Since our kids are a bit older now we are able to take longer day trips so I can t wait for this summer to try something new!
Our favorite family summer getaway in Maine is on Keewaydin Lake. It s a beautiful, small lake outside of the Oxford area (so not too long a car ride for the kiddos). We rent a rustic cabin for a week that is no more than 20 feet from the water s edge. It s heaven. cruising catamarans Add some popsicles and s mores and it s simple summer pleasure #1 in our family! Can t wait for this year s trip!
We love that we live in vacation land and so close to our favorite getaways. Our all time favorite is only 15 minutes from home- Ferry Beach in Scarborough. Ferry Beach is mostly an inlet, so the water is calm. My three young kids can wade and play in it without fear of the big waves crashing over them. The beach is small, so the crowd is usually small as well. You can walk down the beach to the coast, where people fish and play in the waves. The sand dunes are beautiful. The whole area is very Maine picturesque. There are a few lobster boats, Cape houses, and even a train in the distance that my 20 month old loves to watch. My kids favorite part is all the hermit crabs. They love to search for them in the water and collect them in their buckets. Of course we always put them back.
One of our favorite local getaways is. . . our backyard! We live on Thompson Lake in Poland, and with gas prices sky high, we re really enjoying cruising catamarans staying home and taking advantage of the beautiful lake that s right outside our door!
