I have been to Italy many times, usually with a friend,so we have to see the usual sights. On my last trip,my favorite part was staying in a small inn in Tuscany.I have decided hilton head one bedroom vacation rentals that for my next trip,I want to go alone so I can do what i want.I have never been south of Rome.My ideal vacation would be to rent a small apartment or studio for a few weeks where I could walk to shops, etc,go to the beach, meet people, buy local food and cook, drink wine, etc.Anyone have any suggestions for a town?I was starting to look in the Calabria area, but I know nothing about it.Thanks
Yes,I want the beach.I enjoy Tuscany, but I want to be at the beach.@ hilton head one bedroom vacation rentals weeks would probably be all i could do next summer.I have heard people talk about Calabria, and i know its inexpensive, thats all I know.I spent 4 days in Montepulciano, and I loved it.Just wish I wewre at the beach!
I personally really loved the Ligurian Coast. We stayed 3 nights in Santa Margherita Ligure and would have loved a couple more! From there we trained to Riomaggiore and hiked 4 out of 5 villages, stopping for a long fabulous lunch in Corniglia. Another day we took the early boat over to Portofino for a session of window (only!) shopping, strolling and exploring before the cruise boats disgorged. We had a long lunch at the tiny marina hilton head one bedroom vacation rentals with lots of wine.
I went to school in Florence 20 years ago and we used to take trains to the coast.i have been to Porto Santo Stefano,Livorno, other coastal areas.I want something not too touristy, but want to be able to walk to shops and bars and the beach and meet people, and I think I would rather stay in 1 place and then travel a little from there
I second ekc on the Amalfi Coast. I fell in love with Sorrento when I went with my now-fiance two years ago. The town itself hilton head one bedroom vacation rentals is beautiful and has so many shops and restaurants to explore. Its got a lively nightlife with people hilton head one bedroom vacation rentals out shopping and dining well into the night. Capri is only a ferry ride away and there are so many great towns along the Amalfi Coast. I personally think Sorrento would be the best base, espcially if you think you might have a rental car.
Thanks.I think I will look at the Amalfi coast. This is for next summer. And i am maybe looking at a place to retire eventually.Anyone know of a good rental?I don't need anything fancy, want to be able to cook, walk to beach and shops, etc,a pool would be good but not a neccesity.
I realize this isn't south of Rome, but I went to Genoa by myself two years ago for New Years and fell in love with the city. It's easy to take day trips from there, it's non-touristy and after 6 days, I didn't even feel like I had scratched the surface. Being a single female, I never felt uncomfortable or threatened.
I went back this year (February) with a friend and we rented an apartment near the old port and had a ball. My friend even said that she could have spent another week as there was so much to see and do. And, I knew that I had made new friends when we were walking along one day and someone shouted out "Ciao, Brenda!".
