Motley Crue needs no introduction. Their mark on '80s metal can't be ignored; without their contribution, glam metal may have never reached the heights it did in that decade. The riffs come through fast and rough, the double bass drums are played with a ting of aggression, and Vince Neil sings as if his balls are in a vice. Even with the young age of the members, the songwriting is sharp and catchy. The title track is the best track on here, with an infectious chorus and some piercing wails from Neil.
The best moments are when Too Fast For Love turns into an exhibition for Mick Mars to go crazy. We greased some zoned out older metal head to act as our guardian and witnessed the show that made us lifelong metalheads. Too Fast for Love is undoubtedly their best. It s so raw and energized and untame, that it offers resonances of early punk, even though it s a glam metal record. I think Motley nearly conjured the same energy years later on Kickstart my Heart, though lyrically and beefy production-wise, that tune doesn t offer the same take-you-by-the-throat feel offered by Livewire. Another interesting thing about Motley Crue is their early image. Yes, they were classified as a glam band, because they dressed up. But unlike most pretty-boy glam bands around the time Too Fast for Love and Shout at the Devil were released, Motley s image had some gore and gothic qualities to it. I miss that Motley Crue, but I m glad it at least existed once. Thanks for giving Mars some credit. Okay, he s not Yngwie or Vai, but would those guys ve fit Motley? Too many music bloggers don t give credit to musicians in terms of how well they fit a band and are essential to its overall appeal.
