Learn how you can get started with your family tree by visiting the St. Croix Landmarks Society Rese




You are invited to Come Home to St. Croix in July on the grounds of the Estate Whim Museum in Frederiksted. Explore Crucian history and culture through music, dance, exhibits and lectures. This special eight day celebration, in its second year, highlights family connections through reunions, research and other activities. downtown boston hotels Join us in celebrating St. Croix history and culture, whether you are a visitor, were born and live here, live away, or have chosen to make St. Croix your home.
The Crucian week begins on Sunday July 15, with a Ceremony Honoring the Ancestors, an exhibit opening and reception. Some of the week's highlights include workshops and lectures on "Getting Started with your Family History, Midwives of St. Croix, Cariso and Quelbe : Songs of Social Relevance" and walking tours. Exhibits include family stories and photographs from the Olsen, downtown boston hotels Finley, McGee, Cornelius and Sealey families. On Friday, July 20, the World Music Under the Stars concert will feature a Grand Crucian Quadrille with music by Stanley and the 10 Sleepless Knights. Come early and take the special Quadrille 101 class at 6:00 pm and learn the Virgin Islands official dance. Close out the week with an Old Time Family Fun Day with music, food and games.
Most activities take place on the grounds of the Estate Whim Museum, the only sugar plantation museum in the Virgin Islands. The cottage is furnished with period pieces to include a food safe, kerosene stove, enamel cups and bowls, and rocking chairs around a table. Learn how families lived a half century ago. Step into Nenni's house and take time to reflect and share your family memories.
Learn how you can get started with your family tree by visiting the St. Croix Landmarks Society Research Library and Archives. The library houses a large collection of census, church, and other official records including the Virgin Islands Social History Association database also known as VISHA. A special addition this year is the Danish West Indian Passenger Records. The library is staffed by experienced volunteers and will be open extended hours to facilitate Islanders and visitors downtown boston hotels alike in their genealogy research.
Come Home to St. Croix is hosted by the St. Croix Landmarks Society, the islands oldest preservation organization, and sponsored by the Virgin Islands Department of Tourism with additional funding by the Community Foundation downtown boston hotels of the Virgin Islands.
