Typically when you hire a car you'll take out something called a collision damage waiver (sometimes called loss damage waiver). This is a basic insurance providing cover for damage that may occur to the vehicle you've rented.
To reduce the excess to a more manageable 50 or 100, the car hire company is likely to offer you a 'super collision damage waiver' or 'damage excess insurance'. But while this might sound like a good idea, it can actually work out to be very pricey and we're talking around 15 a day here.
Fortunately, there is a way to get around this. And that's by taking out a separate policy of your own that will cover your excess payments if you do have an accident. This will work out to be far cheaper.
For example, Insurance4carhire.com will sell you this cover for just 4.75 per day, or you can pick up European cover for 49 a year. Alternatively, carhireexcess.com offers European cover from just 1.99 a day, or worldwide car rental alicante cover from 2.99 a day.
Bear in mind with this cover, if you did have an accident, you would have to pay the expensive 1,000 excess first, and then reclaim that money from the policy you've taken out. So this can seem a bit laborious car rental alicante - but it will be worth it if you want to save some money!
For example, many policies car rental alicante exclude chipped or cracked windows and windscreens, broken mirrors and tyre and wheel damage. Given that this kind of damage is most likely to occur, you could find yourself car rental alicante paying out for absolutely nothing and then having to cough up for these repairs.
A further rip-off you could face involves petrol. Some car hire companies provide the vehicle with a full tank of fuel and require you to return it full. Others will provide the car with a full tank and require you to return it empty.
However, be very wary of firms that fall into the second category. For a start, if you're only using the car for a short amount of time, you won't use all that petrol so you'll already have poured money down the drain.
Secondly, if the car hire company fills the tank up for you, you can expect a big bill. Companies that do this charge their own inflated price for petrol and you'll car rental alicante end up forking out significantly more.
For example, some car hire firms charge extra for child car seats, roof racks, returning the car to a different branch, additional drivers, drivers under a certain age, peak travel season, and returning the car early or late. You have been warned!
So always make sure you carefully check out the car you're car rental alicante hiring when you go to pick it up. Check the paintwork, tyres, windscreen, and lights for any signs of damage and if you spot any, report it to a staff member.
It's also a very good idea to take photos of the car. That way you've got evidence should the car hire company try to charge you for damage to the car that was already present before you got behind the steering wheel.
Always try to book your car in advance. The longer you leave it, the more expensive it's likely to be. If demand is high and supply is short, you're likely to be stuck paying significantly higher prices. So don't leave it until the last minute.

Re:- Full out-empty back. Thrift car rental in Denver does not offer an alternative you have to take Full out empty back and the charge for a full tank is sky high. They also advertise Luxury cars but only have 2 Lincon Towncars and the new Buick which cannot take large suitcases. The next option is a premium car, a grade down, but having prepaid in the UK, I quote, Hard luck you don't get a refund ! My advice is don't use Thrifty the service is dreadful.
I hired with Easycar.com in Cyprus and HAD TO take full out empty back option. They did it thru Europcar, but next time I went to Europcar itself - it was the cheapest. And they too tried to do the full out empty back ploy, but this time their contract had said there is the option to take full out full back. You should have seen the assistant's face when I said that, and her attitude went down the pan.
Have you noticed that when approaching the airport at the end of your trip, for the last few miles the petrol service stations are all on the other side of the dual carriageway and you are unable to top up your tank as you have agreed, the hire company magnanimously say don't worry we will fill it up for you and charge you 10 a gallon. I advise you to fight them on every clause you don't agree with, sorry for the queue behind which they will use also and ask you to stand aside whilst they fo call a supervisor who never comes and you just get fed up and leave........as the song goes They Win Again
In Canada last year I opted for the full tank / empty tank, when I drove off I realised the tank was only half full so I returned car rental alicante to the depot and they topped car rental alicante it up and I was asked to sign for a full tank of petrol. I made the point that the petrol that was already in the tank actually belonged to the previous hirer and not theirs to sell. They were adamant, so I withdrew from the full tank scheme signed for the half tank and said I would return the car with half a tank full. They reluctantly agreed and I did just that. The fact is that car hire companies are selling the remaining fuel belonging to the previous hirer over an over again and a colleague of mine who used to work with a leading car rental alicante hirer tells me that in one year this was worth over 300,000 to his branch. I hired the car to drive from Vancouver to Calgary one way, when I handed the car back they tried to charge me 250 for them to take the car back to Vancouver. Read fly and drive brochures very carefully because they actually say one way hire then at the bottom in small print 250 vehicle return charge. applies
i ended up in a services carpark for 4 hours unable to leave because of a jam on the M25,we could not move. a few weeks later we were fined for overstaying our time in the car park and a futher 35 pound sby Europcar for them notifying the car park company of our address. The car park company afte rexplanation made no charge , but it took us 5 months of arguing for Europcar to do the same, They don't advertise these charges.
