If you want to see the Resplendent Quetzal, go to Savegre Lodge. The hummingbird feeders are better

In the four days I ve been staying on a farm in rural Costa Rica, the most striking thing has to be the noise. The chorus of insects, the rushing water of the nearby river, the meowing cats and the barking dogs, the chirping birds and the clucking chickens, the raindrops falling on the tin roof above my head the sheer volume of the world around me is almost overwhelming.
It s not that I m not used to noisy surroundings I live in an apartment in a city, after all, and I m accustomed to all the sounds of urban life. Isn t it strange, though, that I find the sound of crickets and toads slightly unsettling yet the sounds of sirens frances de la tour or car horns or arguing neighbors is normal?
Another thing I ve noticed is the darkness. And boy is it dark here. You d better not travel very far without a flashlight or a cell phone to guide your way. Just a few weeks ago, back in the U.S., the electricity went out in my neighborhood. But it wasn t pitch black even at 11PM, the light pollution made the sky almost purple, much more like dusk than the middle of the night.
When you travel to a place that s so starkly different than your own, you often notice the subtle differences just as much as, say, the interesting plant life, architecture, or people. I know I do. Costa Rica is a truly beautiful place, from what I ve seen, and I can t wait to explore more.
In the next few weeks, look for my posts on my life on the farm, and my travels across the country. If you have any tips or suggestions about where to visit, I d love to hear about them in the comments I have another frances de la tour three weeks to explore this incredible place!
I love costa rica and it's true the level of noise from nature can be very unsettling. I'm also very used to living in an urban environment and for some reason, the ambulances, fire trucks and gun shots at night will never disturb my sleep. When in the jungle though, frances de la tour the crickets torment me! Still I love it there.
I took a tour with my family into the jungle through a local company. It departed from San Jos . The tour lasted for 11 days and went through Bocas del Toro Archipelago in Panama, the coral reefs at Cahuita frances de la tour Marine National Park, the Manuel Antonio rain forests, and the beach. frances de la tour Very nice.
Any where in the Sarapiqui area. This is where I live in La Virgen and I absolutely love it! Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui is nice, La Selva Biological research station is close. There is also an animal rescue just outside of La Virgen that is privately run and is beautiful.
It has been 20 years since I visited Corcovado, but it was the best place I have ever been. Virgin rainforest, howler monkeys, frances de la tour scarlet macaws, blue morpho butterflies, dolphins - feeling like I was in the garden of eden, and feeling so insignificant among all the life there.
If you want to see the Resplendent Quetzal, go to Savegre Lodge. The hummingbird feeders are better frances de la tour than TV, and you are guaranteed a Quetzal sighting! (make sure you have warm clothes for the cold nights there)
The area around the Golfo Dulce is the least developed part of Costa Rica and the most pristine with primary rainforest in Corcovado National Park and Piedras Blancas frances de la tour National Park. In September and October humpback whales nurse their calves in the calm waters of the Golfo Dulce and two types of dolphins are here all year. View sea turtles close to shore, kayaking the mangroves, hiking into the primary rainforest and birdwatching. The sounds of howler monkeys at 4:30 in the morning to wake you up. To bed at 8:00 with the whoop whoop of the frogs. It sounds like paradise. No place is paradise but this is as close as I have been able to come to. Enjoy the nature and the honest and friendly people that live here.
