Imagine hopping on a plane at Port Columbus and flying direct to London, Amsterdam, or Frankfurt. According to a Dispatch article today, that s exactly the type of service the Columbus Regional Airport Authority south louisiana tour guide services is looking to add through a public-private cash payment partnership. It sounds like the plans are in very early stages of development, but the right route could service not only Columbus residents, but also those making flight transfers as well as regional travelers from elsewhere in Ohio.

I d imagine a Tokyo flight might make the most sense. Although maybe Detroit already has one. I expect Cincinnati to lose more of its international flights I think London south louisiana tour guide services and Paris are already gone from there.
^Agreed.  I tried to analyze the data here in order to answer the question, but Excel wouldn t open the whole file since there was too much data.  Also, I m not sure if it it shows final destination data, or only where the plane dropped you off next.  If the later, then it wouldn t really help gauge demand to a market where there are not currently any flights.
I think a regular direct south louisiana tour guide services to London-Gatwick or Frankfurt-Main would be the most logical alternatives.  I doubt that Amsterdam would be an option, since there are already direct flights from Detroit via Delta-Northwest-KLM. Of course, the question becomes which airline would offer such a flight from Columbus?   Would B.A. or Lufthansa consider this market as large enough?
Prague, Paris, London and Amsterdam would be nice as well as Asian destinations (Hong Kong and Japan). south louisiana tour guide services But, I would like to see them work on more direct domestic flights.  If I am not mistaken, you can no longer fly non-stop to LA.  I would like to see more non-stops to the west coast personally.
My preference would be a flight to Madrid or Barcelona, but really going direct to anywhere in Europe would be a great thing for Columbus. London seems like the most logical since you could connect from there to anywhere else.
Well, keep in mind that not everyone flying in and out of Port Columbus is making this city their final destination. Many might be making transfers to other airports, or landing and driving (or taking the eventual 3c) to other parts of Ohio.
I think there s a remote shot at AMS and LGW, but not without huge subsidies, particularly in this economy. Many second-tier cities trans-oceanic service have been downgraded or suspended over the last 2 years or so. CVG, CLE, PIT, RDU, SLC, BDL, and PDX come to mind. All of these cities have had their trans-atlantic or pacific flights downgraded to less than daily service, smaller aircraft or suspended outright. The new DL PIT-CDG flight has revenue guarantees and the start of the RDU-CDG flight has been suspended until 2010 (per airliners.net).
Not to be a nay-sayer, but if CMH can t even get a daily non-stop to LAX which has remained as CMH s top US destination without a non-stop, who is going to start flying a 757 to AMS or LGW? Then again, BDL doesn t have a non-stop to LAX either.
johnwirtz thank you for finding the holy grail of BTS data. I ve been looking for the government site that would show that CMH had more O D traffic than even CVG and CLE. Too bad this data only covers US flights and carriers.
1.  Europe service must be to a hub/gateway such as London Heathrow, Paris Charles de Gaulle, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, etc as we need to combine both the people bound for these cities with those that want to connect to other Europe, Africa, India and Middle East destinations from those gateways.  We do not have enough demand to any single international city to justify a flight.  Collective Central Ohio demand to the regions noted here exceeds 300 passengers per day each way, a good number.
2.  Columbus south louisiana tour guide services will secure Asian hub/gateway service before most cities similar south louisiana tour guide services to Columbus given the presence of Honda and their suppliers as well as the importance of Asia to our clothing and other retailers.  Right now Central Ohio demand to Asian destinations south louisiana tour guide services collectively is approximately 200 passengers per day each way, also good.  This service remains a few years out and is helped by new, long range, limited seat (~200) aircraft compared to the very large aircraft (~400 seats) with this range today.
David, does having a separate cargo airport south louisiana tour guide services (Rickenbacker) help or hurt the changes for intercontinental flights from Port Columbus? After all wouldn t Honda and Limited, Gap, etc rather south louisiana tour guide services rely on logistics south louisiana tour guide services companies like Evergreen cargo service to ANC/HKG and may need to use a FTZ rather than use CMH (or does CMH have one too)? Even FedEx and DL/NW share MEM.
Working at CMH the past 10 years, I ve seen many changes from 9/11, to the pull out of America West, Skybus, Jetblue, and the ever changing markets. Yes I would agree an international flight would be great, but I think we need more flights to the west.
Currently the only direct flights anywhere west right now are United to DEN, US Air also has DEN and PHX, Southwest to LAS, and thats all I can think of at the moment. I would love to see directs to LAX and SLC again, SFO, and SEA.
In response to a reader question: there is no new news at this time on Columbus quest for nonstop service to Europe. I reported last fall that airport officials south louisiana tour guide services along with some business/community leaders were exploring the possibility of offering a revenue guarantee similar to what s been done in Pittsburgh and a few other places to a carrier in exchange for nonstop serivce to a gateway European city like London or Frankfurt.
