On May 4, 2012 at 12:00 pm (pre-sale) or 1:00 pm (regular drivers for enterprise rental cars sale) EST, you can buy Hertz car rental points via the Discover America promotion for about 5.6 cents per point with an extra 10% discount for using an American Express card compared to the regular price of 0.20 cents per point.
2.  Cheap Regular Rentals.   A free weekend day in the US, is 500 points or $28 (500 points X 5.6 cents per point) and a non-weekend day is 600 points drivers for enterprise rental cars or $37.  This could be a good deal depending on where you rent.
I suggest following the Rapid Travel Chai method and do a quick check on Hotwire and on Costco travel to get a quick read on the lowest price of a car rental.  Then do the math to see if you re better off using Hertz points or not.

@N Thanks for the link. Actually, you are NOT charged the same amount of taxes as on a regular paid rental, but much less when you actually return the car. The amount shown when you make the award booking is also not what you are eventually charged. drivers for enterprise rental cars But it is confusing.
Ah well, no luck with the presale. The nice thing about having only 10 packages available is that they go to Sold Out fairly quickly (9000 point package after about 4 minutes, 5000 point package around 9 minutes).
No luck for me during the main sale either. Congrats on being able to get something Alan! The 9000 points were Sold Out after 11 minutes, but the 5000 points were still active drivers for enterprise rental cars as of 30 minutes in. I honestly can t see how it s possible for there to only be 45 packages available, but somehow there is at least one that keeps bouncing from shopping drivers for enterprise rental cars cart to shopping car for 30 minutes.
